Melbourne shopping

It's all about fashion in Melbourne, there is everything available including cheap factory outlets, outdoor and adventure wear, surf wear, more alternative and unique fashions, to top name boutiques.

The city shopping precinct will have most things you would want to shop for. There is the main pedestrian mall, Bourke Street Mall. Here you find a large variety of shops along with major department stores. Nearby there are numerous other streets that host great shops and various shopping centres. Make sure you look carefully, some of the best shops can be tucked away in laneways and more obscure locations.

If you are looking for factory outlet stores, head to the DFO centre, right next to Southern Cross Railway Station.

There is definitely no shortage of great shopping opportunities in the city, as well as plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or drink.

About 15 - 20 minutes walk from the city centre is the cool, funky and hip Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. This is a great place if you are searching for something a bit different and unique. There are plenty of stores selling urban, youthful fashions and accessories and heaps of other products as well. This street also has some of the best cafes, restaurants and bars in Melbourne.

The suburb of Richmond (about 10 minute drive from the city, or a short tram or train ride away), is known for its factory outlet stores. Bridge street and Swan Street have hundreds of stores offering some of the best bargains in town. There are also some great cafes and places to eat here.

Chapel Street in Prahran (about 20 minute drive, or a couple of stops away on the train) is known for having the latest fashions from top name labels to some of the hippest clothing stores in the city. Again there are no shortage of great cafes, restaurants and bars here to chill out if you are exhausted from shopping.

St KIlda is also a great place to check out. Here you find a good variety of shopping including hip clothing stores, surfwear, alternative health, unique arts and crafts and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or have a drink.

It's not just fashion that Melbourne is well-known for, you can buy almost anything you would be searching for in one of the shopping areas listed above, or in the numerous massive suburban shopping centres, or along the countless suburban main street shopping strips.
