Margaret River Highlights

  • Explore some of the 150 caves in the area. Popular ones include, Calgardup Cave, Giants Cave, Mammoth Cave, Lake Cave, Jewel Cave and Ngilgi Cave.

  • Adrenaline seekers can go rock climbing, abseiling and adventure caving.

  • Witness the dramatic and rugged coastline in the region. You can see sea cliffs, windswept granite headlands and pristine beaches.

  • Admire the magnificent tall, pale-barked karri trees, which reach up to 60 metres or more in height, that dominate the hilly slopes and valleys of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

  • Walk the Cape to Cape Track, which stretches 140 km from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste. The total journey takes between 5-6 days along the way revealing the magnificent coastal scenery, heathlands and forests of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge.

About Margaret River

Population 2,000

The town of Margaret River is nestled between vineyards and towering Karri forest. It is a small town with an easygoing, friendly community that consists mainly of surfers, winemakers, artists and people who enjoy an alternative and more laid back lifestyle.

Margaret River is well known for its great surfing beaches with some of the best waves in Australia located around here. The town also hosts the Margaret River Surf Classic in March.

It's a great base to explore the more than 80 surrounding wineries, with some of Australia's most famous brands located here, such as Leeuwin Estate and Treeton Estate. There are also plenty of great places to eat and a couple of boutique breweries to get a beer from.

Just outside the town there are some spectacular scenic places to explore by foot, or by car, including networks of underground caves, a rugged coastline, beautiful sandy beaches, turquoise water and towering Karri forests.

If you are looking for some adventure, nearby you can go abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing or bushwalking.
