About Lancelin
Population 600
This tiny fishing village nestled between the ocean and sand dunes is located an hour's drive north of Perth.
Lancelin is generally considered to have some the best conditions in Australia for windsurfing. The best time of the year for this is October through to March.
The protected waters of the bay are also ideal for various other water sports such as swimming, fishing and boating. The offshore reef provides good surfing conditions and also some great diving and snorkelling. There are 14 shipwrecks in the area for experienced scuba divers to explore and Lancelin is the gateway to a world-renowned dive trail.
Surrounding the town are expansive dunes, which are a fun place to use sandboards, dune buggies, motorbikes and four wheel drives.
On Lancelin Island you can see the local population of sea lions and in the bay you can often see many dolphins that frequent here. There is also plenty of bird life, with bird sanctuaries on the islands.
If you are here in spring many parts of the region bloom with spectacular colourful wildflowers.
The town itself has some nice restaurants, cafes and takeaway food venues and other services for travellers.
