Geraldton Highlights

  • You can find some nice waves for surfing for all levels of surfers.

  • Great diving at the Abrolhos islands, which are located within the most southern coral reefs in the world. Here you will find spectacular and unique coloured coral gardens, an abundance of marine life and the historic Batavia shipwreck, which came to its disastrous fate in 1629.

  • Take a boat tour to the Abrolhos islands to see one of the Australia's best sea bird breeding colonies, sea lion colonies and humpback whales during their migration between July and October.

  • Walk one of the Chapman Regional Wildlife Corridor trails to spot some local wildlife and experience the magnificent wildflower season from around August to October.

  • If you're looking to take an interesting photograph, visit the leaning trees near Greenough.

  • The consistent summer winds make this one of the best places in Australia for windsurfing.

About Geraldton

Population 35,000

Geraldton is the main commercial centre in the mid-west with plenty of shops and services.

Along the Batavia coastline, which the city is located, you will find nice beaches, making this place a water sports haven particularly for surfing, diving and fishing and the consistent summer winds this city is one of Australia's best windsurfing locations. This place also has a nice all year round climate with generally warm, sunny weather.

Geraldton is a good base to see the stunning wildflower country from July to November and is the main launch point to travel to the spectacular Houtman Abrolhos Islands. These islands are great for diving, fishing and seeing some amazing marine creatures and bird life.
