Esperance Highlights

  • The white sandy beaches around Esperance with the bright, aqua blue waters are a great place to explore, swim, chill out or sun bake.

  • The area has many islands and reefs that offer excellent waves for surfers. Some of the local beaches can also get some reasonable waves at times.

  • Just off the coast from Esperance, there are over 140 islands in the Recherché Archipelago with plenty of excellent dive sites to choose from. There are a large variety of underwater landscapes to explore and abundant fascinating marine life.

  • Take a whale watching tour between June and October to see migrating Southern Right and Humpback Whales.

  • Explore the wild coastal scenery, rugged granite peaks, and sweeping heathlands of Cape Le Grand National Park.

  • See the prolific bird life at the exceptionally scenic Cape Arid National Park.

  • Head to Stokes National Park to experience Stokes Inlet, one of the most picturesque and interesting estuaries along Western Australia's southern coast.

  • Take a boat tour to see colonies of sea lions and fur seals that breed on some of the islands that make up the stunning Recherché Archipelago.

About Esperance

Population 8,500

The town is located on the shores of Esperance Bay and is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination due to its many attractions.
The area has some stunning coastal scenery, turquoise coastal waters and amazing white sandy beaches. Many water sports are popular in the area including surfing, sailing, fishing and swimming.

Just off the coast are over a hundred islands that make up the Recherché Archipelago. With the vast array of marine life around the islands, it is very popular for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Three National Parks, Cape Le Grand, Cape Arid and Stokes, are located nearby. Here you can find rugged spectacular coastal scenery and great views of the islands in the Recherché Archipelago. The parks are great for camping, fishing and bushwalking.

There are heaps of other things do to at Esperance including four-wheel drive safaris, coach tours, island cruises, diving charters, abseiling, sand boarding and canoeing. In town you can also check out the museum, arts centre, art galleries and local shops.
