For wildlife lovers, you can see the local koala population. There are thousands of fur seals that take up residence at Seal Rocks at the western tip of the island from October to December. There is also the island's most popular wildlife attraction, the parade of little penguins that make their way up the beach to their burrows each day at dusk.
There is plenty to explore on the island, including some nice sheltered bay beaches on the northern side of the island, which are ideal for swimming. For surfers, head to the south coast where you can find a variety of breaks suited for beginners up to the experienced. The coastline also provides some amazing views including the magnificent rock formations of the Pinnacles, Nobbies and Pyramid Rock.
For three days in September or October, the population swells massively, as Phillip Island is the venue for the annual Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
There are several small towns on the island. Cowes, which is located on the northern side of the island, is the main settlement. You will find a variety of places to eat and drink, shops, services and accommodation here.
