  • Surfers can check out Red Bluff (near Lake Tyers), which can produce some good left and right breaks.

  • During springtime the region puts on a beautiful display of wildflowers from the coastal fringes to the highland peaks.

  • Spend some time at the Lakes National Park, which is a peaceful bushland retreat.

  • Explore the vast Gippsland Lakes, Australia's largest inland waterways, which are teaming with bird life, marine life and wildlife and are great for a variety of water sports.

This tourist town is also Victoria's largest fishing port. It is the major commercial town in the Gippsland Lakes region and provides a good place to stay while exploring the Lakes District.

The region is a collection of saltwater lakes and small wilderness islands, and is very popular in the summer months with tourists. A short distance from town is the famed Ninety Mile Beach that borders the Lakes District.
