Wynyard Highlights

  • Chill out at Boat Harbour Beach, with its white quartz sands and crystal clear blue waters.

  • Visit the stunning Detention Falls accessed via a 20 minute walk through tall eucalypt forest.

  • Head to Fossil Bluff, where you can see where the oldest marsupial fossil ever found in Australia and follow a path to the top for spectacular views.

  • Make your way to the lookout at the top of Table Cape, the rough circular basalt volcanic plug that juts into Bass Strait and provides scenic coastal views of Wynyard and beyond.

  • Explore Rocky Cape National Park, where you can see spectacular landscapes, ship wrecks, wild flowers and also discover the parks Aboriginal heritage.

About Wynyard

Population 4,500

Wynyard is situated both on the seafront and the banks of the Inglis River. The town is a service centre to the surrounding agricultural areas and is a good base to explore some of the nearby attractions such as Table Cape, Fossil Bluff, Detention Falls and Boat Harbour Beach.

If you are heading to Wynyard during late September/early October, there is the three-week long 'Bloomin Tulips' festival, which has a variety of events.
