Learn about the fascinating maritime history of the region with a visit to the Maritime Museum. There is also one of the best-preserved examples of an early pilot station, built by convicts in 1805.
Head to the Bass & Flinders Centre to see the replica of Bass & Flinders boat from 1798, along with a host of maritime history.

Located 53 km north of Launceston, George Town is Australia's third oldest settlement after Sydney and Hobart. Today, George Town is an administrative centre to the surrounding region. It is economically driven by the aluminium and tourism industries. Low Head is the small settlement just 3 kilometres north from George Town.
The area's attractions include; various historic buildings, the Low Head Pilot Station, a colony of some of the world's smallest penguins, The Old Watch House Museum, The Bass and Flinders Centre and to the east are the vineyards of Pipers River. Off shore at Tenth Island there is also a colony of Fur Seals, which can be accessed by a local tour company.
