About Tully

Population 2,700

This small town has the reputation of being one of the wettest towns in Australia, averaging an annual rainfall of over 4 metres. All this rainfall means that the nearby Tully River is one of the best places in Australia to go white water rafting. The river has some excellent rapids that range up to Grade Four.

For those who want to remain on land, the area also has some good bushwalks, including the Misty Mountain wilderness walks.

Tully is also one of Queensland's largest sugar cane and banana producing areas, making it a good place for backpackers to pick up some seasonal work on the farms.

While you are there, don't forget to take a photo next to the giant Golden Gumboot, which stands at 7.9 metres high.
