About Townsville
Population 150,000
This is Queensland's fourth largest city and is the main commercial centre of the region.
The city hosts a large student population and has one of the largest military bases in the country.
The relaxed and laidback World Heritage Listed Magnetic Island is just 8 kilometres offshore and The Great Barrier Reef is easily accessible by boat cruise.
The city itself has some good attractions, such as the world's largest living coral reef aquarium, an Australian native wildlife sanctuary, art galleries, museums and the very popular Strand Beachfront Promenade.
Townsville also has a good nightlife, which mainly occurs around Flinders Street East, where there are a variety of fun nightclubs, bars and cafes.
Being a large city you will also find plenty of places to shop, eat and all the relevant services.
