Rainbow Beach is a laidback town set along some stunning coastline. The town is popular with four-wheel drive enthusiasts and backpackers and is best known for its 74 different coloured sands found on Rainbow Beach itself.
Rainbow Beach also has the shortest barge access to World Heritage Fraser Island, which is located 13 kilometres north of the town at Inskip Point.
The town is also the gateway to the Northern Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park, which has some spectacular coastal scenery and is great for four wheel driving.
There are plenty of sandy beaches around this small town and you can get some good surfing waves nearby.
One kilometre southeast is the 120 metre high Carlo Sand Blow and further south along the beach at Double Island Point is the wreck of the Cherry Venture. There are tours available from Rainbow Beach that will take you to these places.
Rainbow Beach is also good for some adventure activities such as scuba diving, paragliding, skydiving and wild dolphin feeding tours.
