About Port Douglas

Population 4,000

Port Douglas is a laid back tropical oasis that attracts a variety of people who come to experience the unpretentious and relaxed ambiance of the town.

Port Douglas was once a sleepy village until it was awakened in the 1980's when big developers moved in and built a number of upscale resorts and hotels. The town has managed to retain its local charm however, and caters to big and small budget travellers and offers a wide variety of accommodation for both. It also has some great places to eat, good night life and shopping.

Port Douglas is an excellent place to access some of the best diving on the planet within The Great Barrier Reef and plenty of companies provide cruises and diving charters that leave from here.

The town is reasonably close for you to access the spectacular Mossman Gorge and Daintree National Park. Alternatively, you could just chill out on the palm fringed golden sands of Four Mile Beach, which is right on the town's doorstep.

If you are heading to Far North Queensland, Port Douglas is worthwhile spending a couple of days at.
