About Agnes Water & Town of 1770

Population 2,000

Stunning natural landscapes and pristine white sandy beaches surround these two small towns, which are about 5 kilometres apart.
The Town of 1770 was named this, as it was the second landing site of Lieutenant James Cook and the crew of the Endeavour who discovered Australia in 1770.

The Town of 1770 is also a departure point for day reef cruises and scuba diving charters to the outer Great Barrier Reef and to nearby Lady Musgrave Island and Fitzroy Reef Lagoon.

For those heading north, this is also the last opportunity to have a surf, as the area has the northernmost surf beaches in Queensland.
For the camping and hiking enthusiast, there are Deepwater and Eurimbula National Parks nearby, both offering great scenery to explore.

The area is a great place to either chill for a while, or partake in some adrenaline and adventure activities, and in the last few years it has become a popular stopover for backpackers.
