About Narooma

Population 3,500

This small coastal town is surrounded by some superb waterways, beaches and beautiful countryside.

It is a great place for various water sports such as swimming, surfing, canoeing and kayaking and is also a mecca for fishing enthusiasts with plenty of charters available.

Just south of Narooma is Mystery Bay, one of the best snorkelling spots on the coast and about 11km offshore is Montague Island, which is teaming with marine life and bird life and has New South Wales only known colony of Australian fur seals. The island also features the State's largest Little Penguin colony, along with thousands of years of ongoing Aboriginal heritage and an historic working lighthouse that is over 125 years old.

Narooma is also a good place to spot migrating whales during the peak season from September to November and also when they are heading north in June and July. A variety of whale species pass by here including Humpbacks, Southern Right, Fin, Brydes, Sei, Blue and Orcas.
