About Broken Hill

Population 21,500

Known as the Silver City, Broken Hill was built on the world's largest silver, lead and zinc mine. However, this town is so much more than a mining town. Broken Hill is a great base to explore the captivating, spiritual and amazing landscapes of the Australian Outback, which are right on the doorstep of the town and in the surrounding National Parks.

Broken Hill is also well known for its art, with over 30 galleries in the town and nearby areas that showcase the work of local artists and various other public collections. The most famous of Broken Hill's artists is Pro Hart and his gallery houses the largest private art collection in the Southern Hemisphere, which includes some of the world's most renowned artists along with his own works.

Broken Hill also offers an oasis of parks and gardens, along with many historical buildings, and of course the influences of the mining business, which the town has been built around.
