About Bega

Population 4,200

Set in the lush rolling pasture of the Bega Valley at the junction of the Bega and Brogo Rivers, Bega is the rural centre of the Sapphire Coast.

Bega is well known for its cheese making, with the Bega Cheese Company located here. The Bega Cheese Heritage Centre showcases the history of the cheese-manufacturing process and the company's growth.

Located nearby the town is the stunning Mimosa Rocks National Park with its natural volcanic sculptures that appear everywhere among the rugged coastal headlands and cliffs. Also, 20 kilometres away is Bournda National Park, a place of great beauty and conservational significance, with saltwater and freshwater lakes, a lagoon, a creek and beaches.

Just north of Bega is Brogo Dam, a nice place for canoeing and kayaking to explore the remote pockets of bushland and its local wildlife, or to just have a picnic.

A short drive out of Bega is the Mumbulla Creek Falls, which is a nice place for a swim in the freshwater tranquil rock pools.
