About Batemans Bay
Population 11,000
Traditionally a tourist haven for the well healed from the cities, Batemans Bay is also a popular tourist destination for the budget traveller and caters quite well to this end of the market.
Batemans Bay is also a fishing port by trade, with the Clyde River running through the heart of the town, making this a perfect destination to get some quality seafood.
Nearby are several national parks and a nature reserve, which have some spectacular scenery and are worth spending some time exploring them.
Ten kilometres south is the historic gold mining town of Mogo, where you can pan for gold, spend time in the arts and crafts stores, or visit the popular Mogo Zoo, with their many rare and exotic species of animals, including the White Lions of 'Timbavati'.
There are good surf beaches north and south of the town and just off the coast is Batemans Marine Park, which is a great place to scuba dive, swim, fish and whale and other marine mammal watch.
